Adoption Application
Please check Areas We Serve BEFORE you continue with the application process, so that you don’t try to complete this application only to find that we cannot accept it. We do not place dogs outside of the areas we serve in Southern California, and absolutely no Out-of-State adoptions.
Currently we serve most of Los Angeles, Orange, and Ventura Counties. We also serve the coastal communities of Santa Barbara County from Goleta south to the Ventura County border and, in the southwestern corner of San Bernardino County we serve the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, Upland and Rancho Cucamonga—dependent on volunteer availability.
Sorry, but SCLRR is unable to accept applications from residents of Riverside, San Diego, Kern, or San Luis Obispo Counties, nor from Central California, Northern California, or Out-of-State residents. For more information, including a list of Lab Rescue groups that operate in areas in which we do not, please see our Areas We Serve page. Please also see SCLRR Adoption — How It Works to learn about our adoption process and whether it will coincide with your family’s needs.
The answers you give on this application will help us to find the best possible match between you and the Labradors available through SCLRR if you are approved for adoption. Please carefully enter your 5 digit home zip code. Please include area codes with all phone numbers. If your application is not accepted into our system because of the zip code you entered for your home, please contact us before going any further to see if we serve the area where you live. One of our volunteers will contact you shortly after we receive your inquiry and, if you do live in an area that we serve, our volunteer will advise you how to submit your application. Please do not enter an incorrect zip code to get your application accepted into our system.
Please give us 10 working days before you call us again and be sure to mention that you’ve submitted a completed form online.
We charge adoption fees for our foster dogs to help cover aggregate costs of caring for all the dogs; the fee is payable at the time of adoption. Our current adoption fees are $450 for dogs up to age six years, $150 for dogs seven years and older.
No service, therapy/comfort, hunting or other working dogs. We are very sorry but we cannot accept applications from individuals, families or organizations seeking a Lab that would be ANY type of service, therapy/comfort, hunting or other working dog. We are also unable to accept applications from group homes or other institutional settings. We expect of our Labs only to be family pets/companion animals.
Puppies? Since SCLRR so rarely has puppies under 6 months of age, we do not accept adoption applications from individuals or families seeking only to adopt a puppy. By far the best place to find a rescued puppy for your family is your local animal shelter.
IMPORTANT: Before clicking ‘Submit’ at the bottom of this form, please DOUBLE CHECK to see that the email address you entered is perfectly correct. Ditto regarding your home’s zip code. A typographical error in either one will prevent your adoption application from being processed. Once you have reviewed all your entries, click ‘Submit’ below; you will then receive an email message containing a copy of your completed application for your records.
IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A COPY OF YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION IN YOUR EMAIL INBOX WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF CLICKING ‘SUBMIT,’ PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER ; many families have found their applications there!
Please note: If you rent your home, you will be asked by your area Family Coordinator to provide landlord permission to have a dog the size of a Labrador Retriever. The Family Coordinator will advise you as to how and where to send the needed documentation.
If for some reason you can’t use this form, call us at 888-554-ALAB. NOTE: You should not use a smart phone or tablet device to complete this application—it is BEST to use a PC or laptop computer.
Again, we serve most of Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and the cities of Upland, Chino, Chino Hills, Rancho Cucamonga, Victorville, Apple Valley and Hesperia in San Bernardino County—dependent on volunteer availability. SCLRR is unable to accept applications from residents of Riverside, San Diego, Kern, or San Luis Obispo Counties, nor from Central California, Northern California, or Out-of-State residents.
